"There will be peace or tragedy for Iran": Trump issues new threat after bombing nuclear facilities

"There will be peace or tragedy for Iran": Trump issues new threat after bombing nuclear facilities

U.S. President Donald Trump said Saturday that Iran must now agree to peace or "we will go after" other targets in the Islamic Republic after attacks he said "obliterated" Tehran's nuclear sites.

"There will either be peace or there will be a tragedy for Iran far greater than what we have witnessed in the last eight days," Trump said in a televised address at the White House.

Earlier, he claimed that the US military carried out a "very successful attack" on three Iranian nuclear facilities, including the Fordo underground uranium enrichment plant.

"We have completed our very successful strike against Iran's three nuclear facilities, including Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan," Trump declared on his Truth Social network.

"A full bomb load was dropped on the main facility, Fordo," the Republican magnate added, specifying that the US planes left Iranian airspace unharmed, which has been at war with Israel for 10 days.

Trump added that "all planes are back. Congratulations to our great American warriors!"

In another social media post, Trump said, "Fordow is gone."

Trump made his announcement just two days after saying he would decide "in two weeks" whether he would join his key ally, Israel, in attacking Iran.

Netanyahu congratulates Trump on the attack on Iran

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked US President Donald Trump for the "bold" attack on Iranian nuclear sites, saying it marked "a historic turning point" that could lead to peace in the Middle East.

"I thank you, the Israeli people thank you," Netanyahu said in a video message in English to Trump. "In tonight's action against Iran's nuclear facilities, the United States has truly shown itself to be unparalleled," he added, noting that the action marks "a historic turning point that can help lead the Middle East and beyond toward a future of prosperity and peace."

Iran's Atomic Energy Organization will not halt nuclear development

Iran's Atomic Energy Organization said it will not allow the development of its "national industry" to be halted, an apparent reference to the country's nuclear development.

He also said the attacks on its nuclear facilities violate international law, without clarifying the extent of the damage from the US bombings announced by President Donald Trump.

UN: Attack on Iran is a dangerous escalation

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Saturday called the U.S. strikes against Iran a "dangerous escalation in a region already on edge, and a direct threat to international peace and security."

"There is a growing risk that this conflict could spiral rapidly out of control, with catastrophic consequences for civilians, the region, and the world," Guterres said in a statement.

"At this dangerous time, it is essential to avoid a spiral into chaos. There is no military solution. The only path is diplomacy, and the only hope is peace," he added.
